Saiful Syazani

In the news yesterday a child of 7 was admitted to hospital after being allegedly beaten up by his warden. The news piece made its way in a tiny corner of a Malay newspaper & I did not give it a second thought.

Today the child was pronounced dead & I searched for every scrap of news I could find. My mind was filled with questions, mainly WHY? Could the child not have been disciplined in another way? His background was also a bit sad in its entirety- an orphan whose mother died & his father gave him away to a foster family. The foster family had sent him to the boarding school in the hope that he will be educated. In the interviews, the foster mom & dad expressed their love towards the child. He enjoyed school, it was reported. His name was Saiful Syazani.

My heart goes to this poor child. May he find peace in the hereafter.
