"A lifetime is too long"
This feed came to my FB page a few days ago https://ms-my.facebook.com/PuanDLyeaniz/posts/kerana-seumur-hidup-itu-terlalu-lama/3304186006367089/
Written in Indonesian language, it was a post by a person who reflected on his mom's divorce with his dad when he was 12. His granny was upset when mom made the decision, because granny saw nothing wrong with his dad. When he asked his mom why (the divorce), mom replied with "You have to understand me. A lifetime is too long". He did not understand.
He was 16 when mom remarried. From his lens as a son, he saw the relationship between his mom and stepfather; and can't help but compare it with his mom and dad's relationship. How his stepfather helped mom with her flower pots and around the house; how he was there when she was in the hospital and their overall conversations and interactions.
As an adult he understood how "a lifetime is too long" to spend being unhappy (with his dad).
There were some feedback that this post is permissive of divorce, however I see it as a child trying to understand (then) and realising his mom's truth many years after. It is also about relationships. Many are lucky to have found that person the first time they looked; while those not so lucky are sometimes given another chance. It's all good I think. We live and we learn.
