The Umbrella Academy

After binge-watching The Umbrella Academy Seasons 1 and 2 in random order, I still had a lot of questions. So, I decided to read the comic online.

The similarities appear to be only in the main characters' names & (certain) powers. Season 1 of the TV show adopted perhaps 10-20% of the comic's story arc (less than 10% for Season 2). In short, the TV show and the comic went on 2 different pathways.

Which one did I enjoy more? Can't really say. The TV show caters to a wider audience & has a lower rating system compared to the comic. There was more blood and violence in the comics- a direct adoption of comics to TV would probably be too gory.. a project by Quentin Tarantino perhaps.

What I would have liked though, is to have the individualised stories be explored in the TV series. Well it did happen in Season 2 when the siblings were separated & they grew into their own. However this could have been equally done in Season 1, because they had been independent before coming together again for the patriarch's funeral.

In the comic there appear to be equal attention given to each of the character. Their personality, and the backstory seemed to be more consistent (compared to the TV interpretation).

Would I watch Season 3? Maybe.

[SPOILER ALERT]

My prediction: Lila may be pregnant with Diego's child & she may have second thoughts about her loyalty to her handler-mom. Harlan could initiate the next Apocalypse.

Favourite character = Klaus!

Incidentally he would be even more interesting if they had adopted more of his powers to the TV show. He levitates, has full control & understanding of his powers.. and is confident, and at one point became the leader of the team when One was disillusioned (in the comic).

Hence we see the producers exercising 'creative license' to interpret the story. This is why I do not watch a movie especially if I had LOVED the book e.g. The Fault in Our Stars.
