Avoiding Stereotypes of Muslim Women in E-Learning Solutions

Due to the time difference between US and Malaysia, this session took place at 1 am.
Despite my drowsiness in the early morning (I am normally out like a light by 10.30pm), this interesting topic kept me awake and engaged.
It's about how Muslim women are stereotyped, and how online classes can create more inclusive content (not just for Muslim women, but all parties).
Participants were mostly from the USA and from education.
- a topic about Muslim women was included, and
- the audience was really supportive and encouraging, despite not being Muslim women themselves
Being a Muslim, a woman, Asian, and Malay I just do not think about it anymore, because I get stereotyped to death. By fellow Malaysians and Europeans alike. I put it down to them not understanding my culture, or my upbringing, or they just do not see my individuality. I blame the last point on Asian society's collective culture, and that in European's eyes we all probably looked alike.
Or perhaps they did not expect me to have come from a progressive family. Or that I could speak fluent English. Or that I am quite educated (despite the way I look)? My mom have always reminded me to dress the part, and not be too shabby. Sometimes I dress in any way that I like just to see how people will respond. Just because.
I was glad that this topic was presented. No Muslim (or Asian) Lives matter campaign will ever happen in this lifetime because we (the affected) do not really speak up against the discrimination. We just worked harder.
But I believe that over time, truth will prevail. In the big picture, the stereotyping is only a small minute part of my life and doesn't define me as a human being. I will be gorgeous and fabulous regardless, because respect is earned not forced on to someone.
