Getting over myself

Sometimes a dose of reality is good, sometimes it could maim or kill. I had a terrible awakening today by a 'ghost' of my past. I wouldn't merit her a full entry in my blog as she is not at all worth it, yet I was surprised how much I am still affected by a betrayal.

Sometimes it's good to have a lot of work piled up on you so that you can keep busy and forget the hurtful things that have happened, sometimes it's the hurt that makes us strong. How do I deal with it? Therapy would be good anytime now!

Is it karma that's causing our paths to cross? Well, our paths did not cross to begin with- it kinda just collided- head on.. and I guess I'm still reeling from it. 'Forgive and forget' is easier said than done, I can say that much! I haven't forgotten, based on what I feel today, and I don't think I have fully forgiven the people involved. What have I come to?

Let's just let go, as letting go can be good- when you leave the rest to a higher power. It's beyond my control, and I do deserve to be happy right at this moment and in the moments that follow...

Speaking IQ

The knack to tell a person's degree of 'smartness' by listening to the way the person speaks- a curse or a blessing? I'm the least smart person on earth yet I 'judge' others' wisdom from the way they speak. I won't name names but this morning I happened to tune in to one particular morning show & some celebs were interviewed about their roles in a movie. One particular interviewee kept repeating that '... this role is good for me as it reflects my seriousness as an actor..." Oh brother, that is so old- there is more than one way to express yourself!

As a thinking person, one should always reflect instead of memorising and repeating the same 'scripts'. People look for originality, wit and insight when they interview actors. Jins Shamsudin for example, has excellent speaking IQ- he says valuable things and does not waste the listeners' time. Ida Nerina, another good example.. Jit Murad.. and Afdlin Shauki too.. all thinking personalities.. and my personal favourite- Madonna! (.. even though she's not really an 'actor'). There's a reason why some celebrities stay on in the industry longer than some others.. and my hypothesis is that it has to do with their IQ.

Maybe Ms X should go and attend a communication class or something- polish up her speaking IQ, she's a bore otherwise. It's one thing being 'safe' with the words that you speak as a celebrity, yet it's also important to make an impact because people has only so much time to listen to you. Am I making sense?

University Entries

This just in- Utusan reported that female students outnumber male students in public universities. So was the 'hot chat' on Hot FM this morning. Why is this happening?

There were a lot of speculations about why less males have enrolled in public universities, but one particular comment irked me. A male caller mentioned that male students choose not to go to universities as they are responsible and and choose to help their family members by working right after leaving school. Another comment was that the males would rather not enrol in uni as they'll end up jobless anyways. What a silly reasoning! It's like saying that "I'd rather not learn to drive as I'll end up in a fatal accident"... or "I'd rather not get married as I'll end up divorced anyways"...

I have no personal comments about why there are less male students in public universities. There seems to be a lot more male students & a dearth of female students in our college! A whole lot of research has to be done on why this is happening and mere speculation will not cut it. If the males are not in universities, where are they?

Sungai Congkak

Yesterday we had a full-fledged picnic in Sungai Congkak, Ulu Langat. We left at about 8 a.m. and returned home around 1.30 p.m. The children enjoyed themselves immensely. Given a choice, they'd rather play in the water till whenever.

The scenery is lovely with tall trees surrounding the pathways. It doesn't get very warm as we're protected by the canopy of trees & there are plenty of picnic spots along the river.

My advice to those planning to go there- bringing your own food is optional as the shops sell reasonably-priced foodstuff e.g. teh tarik inside the park costs RM1.20 & burgers cost around RM2.00. Take nothing and leave nothing behind either, as the river is still fairly clean and do not need any rubbish thrown inside it. Having mentioned that however, I noticed some styrofoam cups & food wrappers left behind by some. Love our rivers people!

The Missing Drain Cover

Sometime last week (Monday, I think), our drain cover was stolen. Upon returning from dinner and in my excitement to open the gate, I fell into the drain. No major injuries were sustained & I can say that I'm fully recovered now, but the fact that this petty crime happened upsets me.

Cost to replace it: RM200- how about that? We'll just cement the hole over and be done with it.
