These sort of essays used to be my favourite ones is school.

Narration & imagination: what if I am a pair of shoes?

Where was I born?

Where was I sold?

What happened to my friends who were defective?

Who bought me and was I treated well?

The end of such essays tend to be: the pair of shoes became old and worn

and are discarded by its owner.

If I were to write this essay again now, I would make the shoes a collector's item. 

"I carried a higher price on e-bay than at the time I was brand new".

How about that?
